Education for all : Every child deserves an equal opportunity to learn.

Help us in our fight for educational equity!

Hamari Pahchan NGO recognises the fact that education is not equally accessible to all sections of the society in India. Under PROJECT DRISHTI, we aim to reduce this gap between privileged and underprivileged children.

Did you know that according to a 2015 Oxfam report, 60 lakh children in India are still out-of-school?
And that 92% of government schools are yet to fully implement the RTE Act?
India is also ranked at 123 out of 135 countries in female literacy rate.

Despite the measures that the Indian government has taken to encourage children to go to school such as the mid-day meal and The right of children to free and compulsory education (2009), the ground reality leaves much to be desired. The state of government education in the country is such that even after completing five to six years of education, around 30 percent of children remain illiterate.

Children in government schools also lack the following -

  • Soft Skills like punctuality, hygiene and discipline
  • Proper learning infrastructure
  • Accountability of teachers
  • Conducive learning environment

We at Hamari Pahchan began to work on the cause of education for the underprivileged with informal classes and slowly moved to more organised and regular classes that also include themes around the overall development of a child's cognitive and behavioural aspects. Apart from basic education, we also teach concepts of good manners, hygiene and cleanliness, kindness, gender sensitization, good and bad touch as well as storytelling, arts, crafts and coding. We also try to increase their political awareness and make them aware about voting rights. We ensure that kids who don’t have access to gadgets, to attend online classes and internet connection are provided along with the necessary stationery items and books they require.

We work primarily in urban slums, government schools and for children from low-income families. We believe that crime rates can also be reduced through PROJECT DRISHTI and the rate of development of these children can increase.

Every child is entitled to an Education and we strive to broaden the scope of this conviction. Due to the initiatives taken up by Hamari Pahchan NGO, beneficiaries like Raj are well versed with magic words like “Please, Sorry and Thank you” and use them in everyday conversation.

I am Ananya, a second year law student working with Hamari Pahchan. I have been working for this cause relentlessly with the help of this organisation and we need your support to help such children. You may choose to -
